This is a phrase that is now familiar to nearly all of our Primary aged children in Alton. ‘The Book’ is of course ‘The Bible’ and the story is one of many acted out by our teams of budding thespians. Their aim — to share the Bible stories with the younger generation. At a recent party for storytellers the enthusiasm of the two teams was totally in evidence. They shared anecdotes of how their sessions had been received, talked about costumes, props, overhead projection and how they are increasingly involving the pupils in their productions.
I thought back to last year when we were desperate to get another group of storytellers together and thought how lucky we are to have such an enthusiastic group of volunteers taking on this vital ministry of passing on God’s word to younger people.
Those of you who are followers of Open the Book and, like me, are addicted to their resources, will be delighted to learn that a ream of new stories is about to be released. These stories are selected equally from the Old and New Testaments and illustrate the values that feature in our schools’ curriculum. Their dramatization should really support the school ethos as well as spreading the Christian message.
It is a great privilege to live and work in a town where the schools open their doors to the local churches and the fact that they do so is a tribute to all those involved in this ministry.
With many thanks and blessings for all those involved,
Lynn Power…. (contact Pam Jones on 01420 86119 if you would like to know more about being part of the team)
